Dr. Brenda Shumate Wojnowski is president of a Dallas-based education consulting firm primarily geared toward non-profit and university clients. She is past president of the National Science Education Leadership Association, retiring chair of the NSTA Alliance of Affiliates, edits the NSELA journal, Science Educator, and chaired the 2010 NSTA STEM Task Force. She has been engaged in university- and foundation-based programs in Texas, Ohio and North Carolina for over 25 years, with prior experience in the public schools of North Carolina. In her work as Senior Program Officer for the Texas High School Project, she was responsible for the oversight and development of STEM Academies and technical assistance support centers across the state of Texas. During her career, Dr. Wojnowski has served as president of a museum-based non-profit (Inventive Education, Inc., Ohio) and has held a variety of positions at four universities (University of North Texas, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Greensboro) teaching graduate-level courses and researching and supporting STEM areas and educational leadership. An award-winning K-12 teacher, Dr. Wojnowski has taught at the middle and secondary levels as well as having served as a high school curriculum administrator. She holds a doctorate in curriculum and teaching with post-doctoral work in educational administration, a Master of Arts in middle grades education, an undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in secondary education, and teaching and supervision certifications in eight areas. She has presented numerous workshops and invited talks as well as having served in a senior level capacity on many grants and contracts from public agencies and private foundations. Dr. Wojnowski has numerous publications to her credit with her research interests being in STEM areas, school reform and the mentoring of beginning teachers.
Dr. Wojnowski’s areas of expertise include, evaluating education programs and developing research-based case studies and white papers; formulating and implementing strategic direction and vision in collaboration with board members and partner organizations; advising on securing and implementing grants and contracts from public and private funding sources; planning and providing professional development; creating curriculum products; and other education related services, particularly in the STEM areas
