Diane’s most memorable Fellowship experiences include attending breakfasts by then-Senators Durbin and Obama, being able to access materials from the Library of Congress, a weekend trip to South Carolina to work aboard a NOAA ship, and long talks and walks with fellow Mickey Flores. After her Fellowship year, Cherkazian-Lyons became a stay-at-home mom to Finn, born in 2006, and Isa , born in 2010. She now lives in Holden, Massachusetts, and continues to be a stay-at-home mom, doing freelance editorial work (editing education books for teachers) and starting her own business designing and sewing children’s clothing. During her Fellowship year, she says she “learned a lot about educational policy and met many very smart and creative teachers and others.”
