Connecticut – High school chemistry
During his fellowship in Senator Norm Coleman’s office, Jim met with groups from Minnesota, wrote talking points for speeches, and met with lobbyists on a wide range of issues. He valued the opportunity to attend hearings and meetings and to provide input on the school lunch program. Among his favorite memories are the many times he played tennis with Senator Coleman on the Senate tennis court. The Senator, Jim says, was an enthusiastic player who never made a bad call. After his Fellowship year, Jim became a consultant for the Connecticut Academy for Education in Mathematics, Science and Technology and a member of the Region Eight Board of Education. Jim now serves as an adjunct instructor of Chemistry at Eastern CT State University, Vice-chair of the Region Eight Board of Education, member of the Board of Directors for EASTCONN (a regional education service center), vice-chair of the Richmond Memorial Library Board, and a member of Marlborough Democratic Town Committee. About the Fellowship, Jim says, “I learned a lot about government operations, politics, and constituent services, as well as educational policy. I also learned a great deal from the other Fellows in our class. They were a most talented, motivated and creative group.”
