Formed by the Iowa Board of Regents in May, 2008, the Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP) is a collaboration of Iowa’s public universities working in alliance with numerous private and public entities to be the state’s STEM Education initiative.

Three over-arching goals guide activities of the Partnership:

  1. to improve the performance of Iowa youth in the disciplines of math and science;
  2. to improve the quality and production of Iowa science and math teachers; and
  3. to coordinate collaboration across the stakeholder spectrum in the STEM realm.

Fulfilling this mission requires programming that spans a rich network of experts and institutions starting with the state’s public universities conjoined to community colleges, private colleges, K-12 schools, museums, zoos, science centers, businesses, industries, governmental organizations, youth organizations, community groups, and regional consortia.

Core programs include Iowa-Teach Math & Science teacher recruitment, Project Lead The Way expansion, Real World Externships for Teachers, the Corridor STEM Initiative, and statewide professional development, outreach, and learner enrichment.

Mid-way through our third year, IMSEP has impacted thousands of teachers and tens of thousands of students statewide, with student performance, STEM major numbers in higher education, and teaching major numbers (and quality) all moving upward.
