The Nevada Mathematics Council (NMC) is the over-arching governing body for four state affiliates of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Each of the four local affiliate members in Nevada is automatically a member of NMC. Representatives from these partners meet regularly to encourage and maintain communication, and collaborate the math leadership efforts within the state of Nevada.
The Nevada Mathematics Council is directly involved in activities such as the identification and promotion of the state K-12 mathematics standards and assessment program and works closely with the Nevada Department of Education and the college/university system. In recent years NMC has been involved with several grants including partnerships with Texas Instruments and WestEd. The organization sponsors annual professional development conferences for K-12+ teachers and participate actively with other Triangle Coalition members, NCTM and Texas Instruments. NMC hosted an NCTM regional meeting in 1998 (Reno) and the 80th Annual NCTM Meeting in 2002 (Las Vegas). The organization will be the site of another NCTM regional in 2008 (Reno) and the site of the NCTM Affiliate Services Committee Leadership conference in 2006 (Reno).
